Snack-tivity: Springtime Cookie Cutouts

Celebrate the sweetness of springtime holidays and decorate your snack in a rainbow of spring colors.

Ingredients and supplies: For cookies: Your favorite sugar cookie cutout recipe or mix (we used Betty Crocker mix which called for 1 egg, 1/3 cup butter, and 1 tbsp all-purpose flour), cookie cutters in springtime shapes.

For frosting and decorations: Confectioners’ sugar, milk or water, food coloring (optional), decorative sprinkles (optional).

Directions:

Pre-heat oven to 350°. Mix the sugar cookie dough according to your favorite recipe or the package directions. Using a rolling pin, roll out the dough on a floured surface to ¼ inch thickness. Cut with cookie cutters. Place 1 inch apart on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake according to your recipe instructions, about 5-7 minutes or until edges are light golden brown. Cool for several minutes before moving from cookie sheet to cooling rack. Cool completely before decorating.

To decorate, place several teaspoons of confectioners’ sugar into a small bowl, and slowly incorporate small amounts of milk or water a little at a time, stirring thoroughly, until frosting is at a smooth glaze consistency. Tint with food coloring if desired. With a butter knife or small metal spatula, lightly spread glaze on cooled cookies. Let dry for 1 hour.
