Miffy Birthday Goody Bags
Treat your guests with a Miffy goody bag! Here’s how you can make your own:
Step 1: Draw Miffy’s face very carefully on to some white fabric. Then get a ruler to measure 1/2 inch around her face. Mark lightly with pencil and cut around the outline. Do this twice, once for the front and once for the back of your Miffy bag.
Step 2: If you want your Miffy outline to be brighter, use special cotton to sew her features onto the fabric. This is quite tricky, so you’ll need an adult to help you with the sewing needle and thread. Otherwise, draw Miffy outline with sharpie marker.
Step 3: Ask a grown-up to sew the two pieces together by sewing the outline of the face and the outside line of each ear to the tippy top only.
Step 4: Once you have sewn around the face outline, fill your Miffy bag with your favorite treats and tie a ribbon around Miffy’s ears to keep the treats safely inside.
Mini Birthday Cake Sandwiches
Written by Cricket Azima & The Creative Kitchen, which teaches children about food and how to cook in a fun, safe, and educational manner.
Miffy loves to bake. Especially mini cupcakes she can share with her friends!
Makes four cupcakes
Ingredients:
• 2 Vanilla cupcakes (fully baked, and if applicable, wrapper removed)
• 2 Chocolate cupcakes (fully baked, and if applicable, wrapper removed)
• 1/4 cup Vanilla frosting, or to taste
• 1/4 cup Chocolate frosting, or to taste
• 1/4 cup Washed, hulled, and sliced strawberries
• 1/4 cup Chocolate chips (if desired, mix chocolates and use half white chocolate and half semi-sweet chocolate)
• 4 tbsp. Cake-decorating sprinkles
Before you start
Miffy always asks Aunt Alice to help her make things, as it’s not safe for her to use the oven without someone there to make sure she’s safe. Make sure you bake with a parent to keep an eye on you – they can help you reach all the things up high, as well as handle anything toasty! Miffy likes to wear an apron when she bakes to stop spills and mess getting on her clothes – so that might be a good idea for you too.
Step 1: Gently cut each cupcake in half, horizontally (leaving a cupcake bottom and top – much like a muffin). Place each half (two vanilla bottoms, two vanilla tops, two chocolate bottoms, and two chocolate tops) on a plate or cutting board, with the inside or crumb-side up.
Step 2: Using a small spatula or butter-knife, gently spread about 1-2 tablespoons of vanilla frosting on the bottom-halves of each of the four chocolate cupcake halves. Using a separate small spatula or butter-knife, spread 1-2 tablespoons of chocolate frosting on the bottom-halves of each of the four vanilla cupcake halves.
Step 3: Sprinkle chocolate chips and sprinkles over the frosting on the bottom-halves of cupcakes.
Step 4: Carefully place strawberry slices on top of chocolate chips and sprinkles.
Step 5: To assemble, place each of the two vanilla top-halves on top of the two chocolate bottom-halves, so that the chocolate frosting-side is face down – and a cupcake top and bottom have been placed tighter to make a whole cupcake formation again. Place the chocolate top-halves on the vanilla bottom-halves so that the frosting-side is face down and again, a cupcake top and bottom have made a whole.
Step 6: Carefully and gently spread chocolate or vanilla frosting over the whole cupcake – so that the cupcake looks like a layer cake.
Miffy’s Top Baking Tips
The oven is hot!
The oven is hot and Miffy doesn’t want anyone to get burned! Adults should always be the ones using the oven.
Wear an apron
When you’re making your goodies you should use an apron to stop spills and mess getting on to your clothes.
Cake dough
Cake dough might taste good, but you should never eat raw egg. Wait until it’s cooked so that it’s tasty and safe!
